Description
It is the capital’s landmark. Here, the Minsk Hero City obelisk was opened in 1985 on the man-made mound. It is dedicated to a very important event in the history of the city – when Minsk was awarded the Hero City title. The 46-meter-tall monument is topped with the gold plated star of the Hero City. A bronze statue representing the Motherland stands near the obelisk. Various celebrations are held near the obelisk: military parades, veterans meetings, festive fireworks.
The new building of the Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War was built near the monument in 2014. The museum carefully cherishes the memories of the tragic and the great events of our history. Museum halls are places one after another, so that by passing them you take a journey through time from 1941 to 1945. Not only the exhibits and the design of the halls, but also sound effects help to experience the atmosphere of those years. The museum has lots of exhibits with mannequins, models of armored vehicles and planes telling short stories from life of those years.
